#188 Pink Paint Water

This isn't a well known brand of indigestion medicine. Nope, it is the dirty paint water from an acrylic sketch I did for the project I am doing with Oakwood primary school in Cheltenham. For more info, and follow the project if you wish, have a look at the blog here .

#187 Swatches

This is a swatch for the material in the room my large oak leaf painting will be living in. I am working on a new blog that will document the project and I will let you know about that tomorrow.

#185 Carpets

The thing I am enjoying most about this years paintings is the unusual paintings i find myself making that I probably would nlt normally make. This is one of those, and thank you to the people who lived here before us for putting a purple carpet on top of a green one. Also, thanks to the electrician who needed access to the electrics underneath the floorboards, and thanks to stanley knife I used to liberate the floorboards.

#184 Daisy

Along the theme of yesterday's child's oak leaf drawing today I have painted a daisy made by nephew Josh for Debbie, cos she loves daisies. Plus the big daisies in the garden look great at the minute

#183 oak leaf drawing

This is a very special detail of a special drawing. It is a sneak preview of the winner of the competition to provide the initial drawing for a large group painting for a new school in Cheltenham I am making with the nearly 300 staff and pupils. The next stage is for me to paint this leaf on a two metre canvas. Then I will cut it up into 300 pieces and the kids and adults will all paint images that represent their aspirations or achievements. I then put it all back together and this drawing will be revealed in all it's collaborative glory!

#182 Corner with Cobweb

The unkind amongst you may suggest I have merely ticked the box with todays painting. The more generous out there will be astounded to see I have still painted after a day of helping students hang their degree show and an evening teaching my evening class gang. You decide!

#181 Cornish pastie

This will be my lunch tomorrow. I don't think we can call it a Cornish pastie because it was made in Cheltenham but I doubt anyone will sue

#180 Crocs

We have these two huuge pots which had bay trees in for a few years until they ran out of space and have had to go..eventually...after a bit of resistance..they are gone and in the bottom of one of them was loads of crocks (to help with drainage) including this yellow one...which I have no idea what pot it originally came from but I liked it so I painted it.

#179 Birdbox

It is a shame this bird box has had no long term visitors, two winters ago something kept warm in it, but no nesting yet. Not sure I've found the right spot for it. Especially right now because it is on my painting desk and possibly a bit late to attract many punters.

#178 Oak Leaf

This is an oak leaf from my 'attempted' oak bonsai tree, because today I collected around 200 oak leaf drawings by the children at Oakwood School where I am making a massive painting of an oakleaf with all staff and pupils for the opening of their new school in September. More news as that develops.

#177 Guitar Bridge

This is the low E string (although it is tuned to open G so it is a Low G String...) on my avocado black telecaster that I built a few years ago. It is what I use when I pretend to be Kieth Richards from the Rolling Stones or Rich Robinson from the Black Crowes...or.. maybe I've shared too much.

*the 'low G string' bit wasn't meant to be funny*

#176 Spectacle Box

I don't remember which glasses came in this box but it has been around and about for a few years, something will go in one day it's a good box that. Maybe, maybe not.

Some of you may remember me falling asleep on a leaking hot water bottle a month or two ago. It was wet. Well, here is the replacement that arrived in the post today.

#171 Bricks

Right after yesterdays little blip we are all back and posting in the right places.....I am also on day #900 of the entire project and thinking about something exciting to do for the 1000th day. Shame the Guinness World record people didn't want to know! Oh these bricks are on my shed.

#170 Ruler

well, yesterday (this post) was a day to mark down in your Dan Young, Daily trivia diary as the first day in 900 days I didn't blog (blogger was undergoing some technical issues most of yesterday) I did paint, of course, but I felt all wierd like I had forgot to do something.  hope noone was too distressed and if you follow me on twitter or facebook you will have seen this. I just realised I felt like I had not handed my homework in on time...hahaha A for effort but F for achievement!

#168 Studio wall

I have decided to paint a section of my studio wall on the days I have my evening class. It is a happy marriage of easy to do (after a 12 and a half hour day) and a suitable subject after teaching painting in a studio. Here you can see the edge of my table  and some exciting red splashes alongside some dark splashes to the right there is a grey smudge of unknown origin.

#167 Roast Chicken

This picture makes much more sense when you have a half eaten roast chicken in front of of you!

Sunday 8 May 2011

#166 Rhubarb

We have had to pull up the rhubarb plant...which means we will feast on rhubarb crumble!

Saturday 7 May 2011

#165 Leeks and rubber band

Red and green are my favourite complimentary colours. I also like the fact that leek packers appear to use the same rubber bands as postmen.

#163 Back of canvas

I've been dealing with the backs of paintings today and lo and behold there was one on my table when I got to the studio tonight.

Wednesday 4 May 2011

#162 Corner of Frame

This is a little plug for the University of Gloucestershire Pittville Staff Show at the Summerfield Gallery, which will sadly be the last show before we move during the summer (apart from the students degree show which will be the real last show..) Aaaaanyway I have a few pictures going in and a special series of drawings that I plan on sneaking in at the end shhh we willl see if anyone notices. This is the corner from one of the frames from this years paintings, this is the first time I have framed any of this years paintings so looking forward to seeing them up.

#161 Splash

Oh my, oh my I had forgotten how tiring talking can be! I had my first evening class for a few months tonight and it is only when i got home, had my pizza, a quick wander up the garden, said good evening to the hens 'thanks for the eggs hens' three more today! Sat down and realised just how tired I am, so this is a shamelessly 'easy 'n quick' painting to appease my daily painting overlord (who is me I suppose). It is a splash of the colour my turps goes when I clean my brushes on the studio wall. The red bit is from where I dropped my brush on it. I liked it, so it stayed!

Monday 2 May 2011

#160 Ipod

This is my old iPod it was great when I first got it about 6 years ago but you just can't draw on it like you can my new one, I will tweet the iPod drawing of my old iPod I am making in a bit when I have finished it follow me @danyoungdaily on twitter to see it!

#159 Muffins

I have been waiting for the right thing to paint on one of these thins panoramic boards that I made up a few weeks ago. These two muffins 'kissing' in the packet seemed like the ideal subject matter. mm  mm chocolate chip muffins.
